Patients with a history of heart problems (angina, heart attacks, heart failure, irregular heart beats)and raised blood pressure are invited to attend this clinic for an annual check up. Your weight and blood pressure will be measured (and you will be advised whether or not these are healthy) and blood tests to exclude diabetes, raised cholesterol and kidney and liver problems are performed.

Drs Boyle and Simpson both perform minor surgery. This includes removal of skin lesions and cysts, tendon and joint injections, toe nail removal, etc. Some procedures are not allowed on the NHS and all patients must see the doctor before being booked into a minor surgery clinic.

This service is provided by the PCT. Patients with mild to moderate depression, anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorders and other mental health problems can be referred to this service for psychological therapy.

New patients are invited for a health check if they have an existing medical problem or are on medication. Emma will check your height, weight and blood pressure. She can also advise about diet, alcohol and smoking. As it can take some time for you medical records to arrive from your previous surgery, this appointment can be used to notify us of any significant current health problems.

Please check with reception about the timing of your blood test, as we may require a fasting sample which should be carried out in the morning. Some blood samples can be kept overnight and sent to laboratory next day, so an afternoon appointment might be possible.

All post-natal mothers are invited to come for an appointment with the doctor when their baby is 6 weeks old when both mother and baby have a check up.

All of our nurses are trained to provide one-to-one counselling to help people to stop smoking. We appreciate that giving up cigarettes can be very difficult and are committed to helping you stop. We are able to prescribe nicotine replacement (patches, inhalators, chewing gum etc) if it is felt to be appropriate. Please speak to a member of staff for more information.

We offer a broad travel service to our registered patients and are a Yellow Fever
Registered Centre. We are able to advise about vaccinations and health precautions
whilst abroad. Please speak to Receptionist about your travel destination as soon as
possible. It may take several weeks to complete a full course of vaccinations.
Therefore we strongly recommend booking your appointment AT LEAST 6 weeks
before travel. However, we appreciate that some journeys are made at short notice,
and the Practice will endeavour to accommodate urgent requests subject to
availability. Please note that you may need to pay for some of your vaccinations.
Private prescriptions will be issued for malaria prevention. For more information on

All of our Nurses are trained to give advice about contraception, breast screening, smear queries, Our Practice Nurse, Anastasia Phelan is able to provide advice and guidance specifically on menopausal symptoms. All of our nurses are very experienced at performing cervical smears. It is normal policy for our female patients to have their smear performed by a practice nurse. You will be invited for a smear via the Health Authority Screening Programme and then contact the surgery for an appointment.

Our affiliated midwives Heather Wells and Judy Barney run their midwife-led antenatal clinics at the surgery. We are very fortunate also to have a Specialist Midwife on our Team, Siobhan Taylor, who looks after particularly vulnerable or young pregnant patients from the local area. This health visitor-led service is run in the Community Room off our surgery waiting area at the Oak Tree Centre on a Thursday morning. Emma is qualified to perform venesection (blood taking), ear syringing, dietary advice, smoking cessation, spirometry (breathing tests), wound care, and ECGs. She is also trained to perform flu vaccinations. Emma assists our vasectomy surgeon inour vasectomy clinics.

Routine child development checks are, at present, performed by the GPs at 6 weeks and 8 months of age, though these are currently under review. A further assessment is made at 2.5 years by the health visiting team. If you have any concerns about your child's development the health visitors and GPs are of course happy to discuss this during other appointments. Routine audiology (hearing) tests are performed at birth at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

General Contraceptive services are open to registered and non-registered patients. This service is provided by doctors and specialist nurses. We can arrange coil insertion for non-registered patients. We also offer emergency contraception (morning after pill and emergency coil fitting). We also organise for Chlamydia testing from the surgery and are able to refer patients to the sexual health clinic in the same building as the Surgery. Please ask our Receptionist about these services.

Childhood immunisations are performed by the practice nurse. You will receive a letter automatically when your child is due a vaccination. If you are unsure about the national vaccination programme, more details can be given by your health visitor. The newly-developed HPV vaccines to prevent cervical cancer are delivered by the school nursing team, commissioned by Cambridgeshire PCT.

There is a high prevalance of chlamydia in 15-25 year olds (one in ten have the infection - many with no symptoms at all). This is a sexually transmitted infection. The surgery can provide FREE confidential screening for this infection. It is painless and simple. All that is required is a urine sample from a man, or a self- taken vaginal swab from a woman. Please speak to a member of staff for more details or to ask for a testing kit. We are also able to refer patients to the sexual health clinic in the same building as the Surgery. Please ask our Receptionist about these services.

Patients who have been diagnosed with diabetes are invited to attend at least annually for monitoring and support of their condition. Routine blood tests are performed as necessary. Patients who have more complicated symptoms may be referred to the Specialist Diabetic Nurse, Hally Bennett who runs clinics from our Surgery.

A Drinksense Counsellor attends the surgery to provide counselling for our registered patients. We also work closely with Drugs Counsellors from Addaction. Please speak to a member of staff about this service.

Patients who have asthma are invited to an annual check up. If their symptoms are more troublesome, they are monitored at more regular intervals. The practice nurses work closely with the GPs with the management of these patients.
