Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

STIs are very common, especially in the under 25s. Many STIs are silent infections and may not show any symptoms, so routine testing, for example, at the start of a new relationship, is advised.

There are some really good new tests for STIs, which can be done by men and women themselves rather than needing to have an examination.

There is a high prevalence of Chlamydia in 15-25 year olds (one in ten has the infection - many with no symptoms at all). This is a sexually transmitted infection. The surgery can provide FREE confidential screening for this infection. It is painless and simple. All that is required is a urine sample from a man, or a self- taken vaginal swab from a woman. Please speak to a member of staff for more details.
